Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
IGETC is a pattern of courses prospective transfer students from a California community college may complete to satisfy the lower-division breadth/general education requirements at both the University of California and the California State University. If you complete the entire pattern of IGETC before transferring, you are exempt from the UC Santa Cruz campus's general education requirements. Your community college must send official certification that you have completed the UC-IGETC requirements with your final transcript. A list of courses that meet the IGETC requirements is available at your community college. IGETC is a good option for students who are pursuing majors with few lower-division required courses, but it is not recommended for majors that require extensive course preparation, such as any major in the Jack Baskin School of Engineering or the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences.
