Q: What are my transportation options?
A:

The TAPS (Transportation and Parking Services) homepage has more information on transportation services at UC Santa Cruz and in the Bay area.

Metro Bus
The Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (SCMTD) operates an extensive bus service throughout Santa Cruz County. The University buses serve the campus every five to eight minutes on academic days and four times an hour during the summer and quarter breaks. Since all university buses originate at the Metro Center, transferring between buses is easy. All Metro routes are wheelchair accessible. Learn more about this system by picking up a "Headways" bus schedule at many locations around campus, visit SCMTD's web site, or call (831) 425-8600.

Metro Night Owl Bus Service to UC Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz Metro provides late-night bus service to campus during academic quarters. Students show their valid UC Santa Cruz Student I.D. card to ride Metro Night Owl buses; UC Santa Cruz faculty and staff show their UC Santa Cruz Metro bus pass; others pay the $1.50 one-way cash fare.

On Friday and Saturday nights, buses operate on the 16 University Laurel Street route until 2:40 a.m. and on the 19 University Lower Bay route until 3:00 a.m.

Sunday through Thursday nights, buses operate on the 16 University Laurel Street route until 2:00 a.m.

From certain areas of town students may also get a ride by using the dial-a-ride option. Dial-a-ride service areas include downtown Santa Cruz, River Street locations, the Boardwalk area, West Santa Cruz locations, and the area between Mission Street and campus.

Bus Passes
Students with a valid UCSC Student I.D. card can ride any SCMTD transit bus for FREE because part of their student fees goes to the transit system. In addition, TAPS offers all UC Santa Cruz staff and faculty free bus passes for SCMTD transit.

TAPS also provides quarterly bus passes at a discounted rate to family members of employees and students living on campus.

Shuttles
Day Shuttles operate Monday through Friday and serve the entire campus, including classrooms, the main entrance to campus, and the East and West Remote parking lots. During the academic year Day Shuttles operate on 10-minute frequencies. During the summer and quarter breaks, Day Perimeter Service is available every 15 minutes.

Night Shuttles operate seven nights a week during fall, winter, and spring quarters and serve the entire campus, including college circles. The Night Shuttles operate on 10-, 15-, and 20-minute frequencies.

All shuttle routes are wheelchair accessible. Shuttle service is free. Maps and schedules are available on the shuttles and at shuttle stops, at the 20+ Transportation Information Centers around campus, and in the Metro "Headways."

BART Bus
The UCSC Fremont BART Connector provides two round-trips a day on Fridays and Sundays during the academic year. On Fridays, the bus departs UC Santa Cruz at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and departs BART at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. On Sundays, the bus departs UC Santa Cruz at 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and departs BART at 3:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Pick-up and drop-off at UC Santa Cruz is at the Porter Metro Stop on the north side of Heller Drive.

Wheelchair access is available; make your needs known when making a reservation. This service is available to university affiliates only. The cost is $10 each way; 10-, 20-, and 30-count ticket books can be purchased at the TAPS Sales office.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling (831) 459-3779 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Disability Van Service
The Disability Van Service provides on-campus wheelchair lift-equipped transportation. This service is available to staff, faculty, students, and visitors with temporary or permanent mobility impairments. This service is free of charge; current medical documentation is required.
