the nation among public campuses for the quality
of its research productivity; in the study, UC
Santa Cruz ranked 1st in the assessment
of productivity in the Social Sciences and 6th
in the Arts and Humanities index. In surveys by
the Institute for Scientific Information measuring
per-paper impact, UC Santa Cruz ranked 1st
in the nation for its research in the field of
space sciences and 2nd in the world
in the physical sciences.
