Arboretum

The Arboretum occupies one of the best horticultural sites in the world. It is world famous for its plants from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and California. Free admission. Take a self-guided tour! Students may work in the in the Arboretum for class credit.

Mary Porter Sesnon Art Gallery

The Porter Gallery has 4-5 exhibits each year. It focuses on contemporary and experimental art. Free admission.


Arts and Lectures Programs

UC Santa Cruz Arts & Lectures is the largest presenting organization in the Monterey Bay region with an outstanding reputation for bringing nationally and internationally recognized artists to the local community. See famous artists and student performers in musical and theater productions. Be an usher at events and attend the presentations at no cost! Athletic Team Games

Varsity Athletic Teams: Division III basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, water polo, X-Country, golf, swimming and diving.

UC Santa Cruz Club Teams: Involves less formal collegiate activity. Baseball, cheerleading, women's competitive dance/drill team, cross-country, cycling, equestrian and dressage, fencing, table tennis, rugby, sailing, track and field, Ultimate Frisbee, water polo, and women's lacrosse.

Intramural Games: This program is open to all UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Flag football, "B" basketball, under 6' basketball, coed basketball, women's basketball, coed "A" volleyball, coed "B" volleyball, coed outdoor soccer, open outdoor soccer, coed indoor soccer, coed softball, open softball, floor hockey, coed Ultimate.

Bicycling
The UC Santa Cruz upper campus offers some off-road bicycling areas. Bicyclists are limited to designated roads -- no single-track bicycling is available on campus lands. Many of the upper campus lands contain sensitive and unique biological, geological and cultural resources and reserves. Visitors are responsible for knowing and complying with all regulations.

Hiking
With the University campus covering 2,000 acres of hilly terrain, there is ample opportunity for recreational hikers to enjoy the scenery. The Office of Physical Education and Recreation (OPERS) has instructors, materials, and courses to teach fun and safe hiking techniques.

OPERS - Office of Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports

East Field House: fitness center, racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, Olympic size swimming pool, tennis courts, fields, track, beach volleyball courts, martial arts and dance studios.

West Field House: indoor and outdoor basketball/volleyball courts, a few workout machines, tennis courts, field.

Performance

Shakespeare Santa Cruz

Shakespeare Santa Cruz is a professional theater group affiliated with UCSC. USA Today rated it as one of the top 10 Shakespeare festivals in the country. Performances are from July-September. Visit the Division’s web site for show times and pricing information.

Division of the Arts
Attend UC Santa Cruz events from the Music Department, Theater Arts Department, the Sesnon Gallery, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Art Department, History of Art and Visual Culture Department, and Film and Digital Media Department. Visit their web site for performance and event schedules.

Recreation Department
Sign up for a variety of program, classes and workshops such as rock climbing, kayaking, surfing, adventure outings, wilderness skills, cooking, first aid, holistic health, wine tasting. Sign-ups take place at the beginning of each quarter and students often spend the night before in line!
