Q: Do I need to make reservations for "Spring Spotlight"?
A: In order to give our guests the best possible experience, we have limited our tour size, so you will need to make reservations on this web site. Please note that "Spring Spotlight" is limited to admitted students for the coming fall and their guests.
Q: Should I sign up for both a tour and "Spring Spotlight"?
A: "Spring Spotlight", which is only for admitted students, includes a campus tour. During this period, the campus suspends its regular tour program to focus on newly-admitted students. Regular campus tours will resume after April 19. If you are not a newly-admitted student, or if you wish to see the campus at a different time, you are welcome to sign up for a regular campus tour either before April 5 or after April 19.
Please note that "Spring Spotlight" includes some events that require advance registration, so please take a look at our online calendar to see if that’s the case for the event you’re interested in attending.
Q: I am an admitted student for fall 2008, but I can't make it to the campus April 5-19. What should I do?
A: You are welcome to sign up for a regular campus tour at another time. Use the online campus tour reservation site. Student-led tours are offered every weekday and on some Saturdays.
Q: I am an admitted student for fall 2008, but I’m having trouble logging on to the site. What should I do?
A: All admitted students should be able to log on to the site. However, there may be a lag in our data or some other question about your admissions status. If you are an admitted student and still can’t log onto the site, e-mail myapplication@ucsc.edu. Please be sure to include your full name and ID number, which begins with a W, followed by seven digits. Our Admissions staff will investigate the problem and get back to you by e-mail.
Q: Where do I park?
A: Park in the Barn Theater lot, which is the first parking lot on the left, past the main entrance to campus. If necessary, parking attendants will direct you to overflow parking at the Granary, which is across the street from the Barn Theater lot. This web site includes a PDF of your four-hour parking permit. Please print the permit and bring it with you.
A shuttle will pick you up at the lot to take you to the Merrill Cultural Center, where Spring Spotlight begins. You will need to present your Backstage Pass to board the shuttle.
If you wish to stay on campus longer than four hours, you are welcome to purchase an all-day parking permit at the kiosk (on the right, just after you enter campus at Bay and High Streets) for $5.50, and park in one of the lots on campus. Please be advised that parking on campus is limited, and lots may be full.
Q: What is the check-in procedure?
A: After you have made your reservation, please print your "Backstage Pass" (either your confirmation web page or your confirmation e-mail), and bring it with you on the day of the event. Please plan to arrive 45 minutes early for check-in.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Because the "Spring Spotlight" tours are walking tours with some moderate hills, you should wear comfortable walking shoes. Santa Cruz weather is subject to change from sunny and warm to foggy and chilly throughout the year, and often within the same day. We recommend dressing in layers. Weather Forecast
