TAG Update

The UC Santa Cruz Transfer Admission Guarantee (UCSC-TAG) program will continue in 2013, with two important changes to the program.

Now Accepting Students with College or University Records from Outside the U.S.
Starting in fall 2013, students with college or university records from outside the U.S. will now be eligible to apply for UCSC-TAG. This is a significant change from previous UCSC-TAG policy.

Please note that non-native speakers of English must demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting scores from IELTS (International English Language Testing System), by earning a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based Test of English (TOEFL) (83 on the Internet-based test), or by earning a score of 560 or higher on the Writing section of the SAT Assessment test. Our institution requires an overall band score of a 7 or higher on the IELTS. Students may also demonstrate competency in English by successfully completing two UC-transferable courses in English Composition with “B” (3.0) grades or higher. This proficiency requirement applies to students who completed any of their high school education (9th through 12th grades) or beyond in a country where English is not the native language.

Now Screening for Major Preparation in Certain Majors
Another significant change to UCSC-TAG policy is that for the first time, UCSC will be screening for major preparation in majors in the areas of Biological Sciences, Economics, and Psychology.

UCSC majors in these areas include:
Biology B.A., B.S.
Business Management Economics B.A.
Cognitive Science B.S.
Ecology and Evolution B.S.
Economics B.A.
Economics/Mathematics B.A.
Global Economics B.A.
Marine Biology B.S.
Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology B.S.
Neuroscience B.S.
Plant Sciences B.S.
Psychology B.A.

Further details on the screening criteria will be released later this summer.

UC Santa Cruz’s TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) Program is designed for California community college transfer students at the junior level. The benefits of participating in UCSC TAG include early review of academic records, notification that admission to UCSC is guaranteed (subject to the conditions of the program), opportunities for advising about major preparation and general education and/or Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements, informational mailings, and invitations to events.

The UC TAG application must be submitted online between September 1 and 30, 2012 for fall 2013 consideration. UCSC accepts transfer admission agreements for fall quarter only.
