Admissions Staff Update

eSlug Newsletter Summer 2017

This will be a summer of mixed emotions as our UCSC Admissions staff family bids goodbye to a cherished member and says hello to a wonderful new addition.

Jay Shinseki, Assistant Director, Frontline

Jay Shinseki

Jay, who retired in June, was in charge of the busy front desk in Admissions, including in-person visits, phone calls, and e-mails, running a staff of several full-time employees and student workers, and doing work that spanned two buildings in different areas of the campus.

"I have mixed emotions about retiring," Jay said, "mostly because of the exceptional people who work with me at UCSC. I have made some wonderful friends along the way." The feeling is certainly mutual. During his 12 years at UCSC, Jay has earned praise and gratitude from both fellow staff members and prospective students and families.

Dedicated to service, Jay has also worked as a Buddhist minister for 36 years, currently serving at the Buddhist churches in the California cities of Monterey and Watsonville.
