The campus kicked off the celebration with "Dress Like It's 1965 Day" on January 15, complete with fashion tips from Tiffany White Stanton (B.A., psychology, '03),
co-costume designer of AMC's multiple Emmy Award-winning TV show Mad Men. The highlight of the event was a gathering in Quarry Plaza, featuring a costume contest, a professional photographer, and the KZSC radio station onsite broadcasting live and spinning tunes from 1965. UCSC Dining also featured a special "Eat Like It's 1965" event that afternoon, when the dining halls served vintage dishes from the 60s.

The campus has also launched a national multimedia campaign that is expected to reach 17 million people by the end of 2015, including an all-new web site, a music video featuring a song by Brett Dennen (B.A., community studies, '04), articles and advertisements in national publications and radio stations, and banners on campus and in the City of Santa Cruz.

Social media at UC Santa Cruz will also light up with the 50th Anniversary theme, which can be followed using the #UCSC50 hashtag.

To find out more about UCSC's history as the "most significant educational experiment in the history of the University of California" (according to founding UC President Clark Kerr), we recommend starting at the 50th Anniversary web site, which includes a fascinating pictorial timeline telling many UCSC stories, and a great variety of articles, photos, and videos.
