Fall Applications Top 50,000 for the First Time

UCSC Admissions is experiencing its busiest application reading season ever, as nearly 55,000 undergraduates applied for fall 2015, setting yet another record for the campus. Over 45,000 frosh and nearly 8,800 transfer students applied this year, continuing a multi-year trend of increased interest in UC Santa Cruz among prospective students.

UCSC's 10 percent increase in California high school senior applications was the second-highest percentage in the University of California, and our 26.1 percent increase in frosh international applicants was the highest percent increase in the UC system. Out-of-state interest among high school seniors also increased significantly, by 17.9 percent.

The fall 2015 frosh applicant pool for UCSC is also highly diverse, with increases among African Americans (up by 6.9 percent), American Indians (up by 3 percent), Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders (up by 7.6 percent), and Chicanos/Latinos (up by 14.5 percent).

Among transfer students, California applicants increased by 6 percent and international by 26.7 percent, and while out-of-state application numbers were unchanged from fall 2014.
