UCSC Summer Session Welcomes High School Students at 50% off!

eSlug Newsletter Winter 2018high schoolHigh school students who have completed their sophomore or junior year with a GPA of 3.0+ can enroll in UCSC Summer Session – for 50% off tuition!

That’s right – HALF PRICE UC credits - exclusively for high school students.

Students can choose from over 100 different classes across 30 departments including Biology, Environmental Studies, Music, and more. High school students can enroll in any lower-division courses (those numbered 1 through 99) or upper-level courses with approval. Favorites include Introduction to Computer Science (CMPS 10), Calculus (Math 19A/19B), History (10B), Economics (Econ 1), Creative Writing (KRSG 65W), and Literature (Lit 61). For students who prefer not to come to campus, there are many courses offered completely online. All of our 2018 classes are now available at summer.ucsc.edu.

Our Summer Session program is a true college experience. High school students take classes side by side with current undergraduates, visiting college students from across the country, and other high schoolers.

Credits earned over summer are easily transferable to other institutions, including any University of California campus, or they can satisfy high school requirements.

Last year, 78% of high school students earned a B or better. Their average summer UCSC GPA was 3.44!

Most classes are 5 credits and meet for 5 weeks.

Session 1: June 25 – July 27
Session 2: July 30 – August 31

Santa Cruz High School senior Matthew Phillips, 17, who signed up for a beginning Japanese language summer session course before his junior year, liked it so much that he returned this last summer for Literature 61F, a study of the graphic novel.
