Message from the Director of Admissions

Welcome from Interim Director of Undergraduate Admissions Blia yang

Greetings and best wishes from Santa Cruz!

It is truly my honor to now be serving as the Director of Undergraduate Admissions at UC Santa Cruz. Higher education is my passion. It is what changed my life at a critical crossroads, and I feel both a sense of humbling responsibility -- as well as joy -- in my role helping to bring the life-changing advantages of higher education to future students.

I look forward to meeting many of you (or continuing our relationships) over the coming months and years as we work together for our students.

Thank you sincerely to all your many students who applied for fall 2019 admission during our filing period, including transfer students who took advantage of the extension until January 4. This year we received over 55,000 freshman applications and nearly 12,000 transfer applications. Our staff are all extremely busy reading applications now, and will continue to be so for the next two months.

First-Year Applicants – What to Expect

We will announce freshman decisions beginning now and finalize initial decisions by March 20. Students will be able to view their decision on their portal.

Please note: Students who have changed their course schedule from what they indicated on their application, or who have earned any D or F grades in any of their senior-year classes, must notify the Office of Admissions using this form. Even if they already reported this information via the UC Application Center, they must still report directly to UC Santa Cruz. Schedule changes and poor grades must be reported in a timely fashion.

Transfer Applicants – What to Expect

All transfer applicants will be notified via their portal. We will begin posting our decisions on March 17, and continue posting decisions through April 30.

Please note: Transfer applicants must enter their fall grades and all in-progress or planned coursework on the UC Transfer Academic Update website. We ask that students please make their update as soon as possible and respond to any inquiries from our office in a timely manner.

Again, best wishes to you on behalf of UC Santa Cruz Admissions, and thank you for all you continue to do for your students. We hope to greet many of your students on campus this fall as new Banana Slugs!
