Before March 15: Targeted e-mails to our applicants, reminding them of deadlines and introducing them to academics and co-curricular activities at UCSC. After March 15: Additional targeted e-mails to admitted students, giving them more information on academics and co-curricular activities at UCSC, welcoming them to campus, and informing them about spring visit opportunities. Examples: E-mails from deans of each undergraduate division, e-mails from the academic departments.

The Chancellor will record several congratulatory admissions videos for admitted students, welcoming them to the university, encouraging them to learn more about UCSC, and announcing Spring Spotlight.

Videos highlighting the Residential College system at UCSC, to best address common questions from admitted students.

Resource Centers and Other Organizations – March-April, 2017
Videos in collaboration with Resource Centers capturing the services and support provided to students. Those Resource Centers who created videos in 2016 will be extended an opportunity to reshoot videos to include additional student voices.

Packet of materials containing a letter of admission, and Admit Brochures which contain information on next steps, financial aid including Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan and Undergraduate Dean's Award, targeted information for international students and domestic non-residents, Conditions of Admission Contract for frosh and transfers, information on Spring Spotlight, Spotlight Mondays online, the Virtual Tour, Summer Academies and Summer Orientation, housing and dining, a campus map, and information on each residential college.

UnigoLive Events – April-May, 2017
All admitted frosh and transfer students; targeted events for international frosh will also be held. All events will take place via the UnigoLive Tool and will be 1 hour in length.

TargetX – 'Schools on Facebook' – Mid-March – December 15, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students
Utilizing the TargetX “Schools App” via Facebook, UC Santa Cruz will create a private, branded community for admitted UC Santa Cruz students, allowing them to meet their future classmates, ask questions, share interests, and get excited about their college experience! The Schools App will be available to students admitted to UCSC for fall beginning in mid-March.

Admissions Website – March 15 and ongoing
Target Audience: Admitted students, including students who have accepted their offer of admission online, parents, counselors
Continue to update Admissions website to include key information regarding next steps for students offered admission to UCSC for fall 2017, as well as those not offered admission, including waitlisted students. Admissions website will direct admitted students to the Student Portal for the most up-to-date information. Separate FAQ web sites will be used for parents of applicants, admitted students, and denied students. Web sites for parents and for counselors will include a step-by-step walk-through showing how students will accept their offer of admission on my.ucsc.edu

On-Campus Events 

Spring Tours (prospective and admitted students) – April 4 – 6, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfers, and prospective students
Open to admitted and prospective students. Will include additional daily student-led walking tours, Admissions presentation addressing admitted and prospective students. Tours are designed to serve the needs of high school and community college students visiting campus during their spring break. *Note: Admitted students are encouraged to attend Spring Spotlight, but Spring Tours are open to all students.

Spring Spotlight 2017 (admitted students only) – April 7 – 15, 2017 (excluding Sunday, April 9)
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students
For admitted students only. Daily student-led walking tours, Admissions and departmental presentations, open office hours, classroom visits, college visits/tours. Transfer-specific sessions April 14 and 15.

ABC Reception – April 15, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted African American students and families
UCSC will host an on-campus reception for newly admitted African American students and their families. The purpose of the reception is to celebrate students' admission to campus, acquaint the students to the ABC community and resources, and to provide insights into campus academic and student life.

Music Day – April 22, 2017 
Target Audience: Admitted frosh who are former foster youth
The Smith Renaissance Society will be hosting Music Day. Admitted frosh who have been identified as foster youth via the UC Application will be invited to attend.

Coffee Chats – April, 2017 
Target Audience: Newly admitted students and families from targeted regions
UC Santa Cruz will partner with alumni across the country to host small coffee chats in select cities with newly admitted students and family members. These events wil allow students to learn about UCSC's academic and social offerings from an alum, and to get individual questions answered in a small, one-on-one forum. Coffee chats will take place in California and across the nation.

Chancellor's Reception – April 8, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted high achieving frosh
A welcome reception for high achieving newly admitted students to learn more about UCSC’s faculty, academic offerings, and undergraduate research opportunities. Invitees include Regents Scholars and students invited to the UCSC College Scholars program. This event will be held in conjunction with other Spring Spotlight visit opportunities.

Regional Receptions and College Fairs

Admitted Student Regional Receptions – March 15 – April 20, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted students and families from targeted regions
UC Santa Cruz will host a number of off-campus receptions for admitted students and their families. Each event will offer admitted students an opportunity to learn more about our campus and meet other admitted students in their area. Members of the UCSC community, including Admissions and local alumni, will be on hand to answer questions and provide more information about UCSC and how the campus may be a good fit.

As with last year, receptions will be held in California, other states, and internationally. Travel will align with spring recruitment efforts when possible to maximize resources.

Locations for the Regional Receptions will include Northern California, Southern California, East Coast, Western States, Midwest, Asia, Canada.

Spring 2017 College Fairs – April 6 – May 2, 2017
Target Audience: Prospective students. Newly admitted students may also be in attendance and will also be encouraged to participate in other yield efforts (i.e., regional reception, on-campus and virtual activities).

Ambassador Program and Faculty Outreach

Taking UCSC Home – March 27 – 31, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students
Trained student ambassador volunteers (current UCSC students) visit their alma mater high schools and community colleges over spring break to conduct UCSC outreach presentations for newly admitted students.

Faculty/Divisional Yield Outreach – March 23 – April 25, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students
Faculty/Academic Divisions will be invited to collaborate with Admissions to contact newly admitted students from targeted populations, including but not limited to the following: out-of-state frosh, international, first generation, underrepresented, Regents Scholars, and UCSC College Scholars program students. Students will be contacted via phone or e-mail, and provided an opportunity to speak with a faculty member to learn more about the campus and academic opportunities.

Targeted Phone Banking Initiatives

Underrepresented Populations Phone Banking - April 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students
Admissions will coordinate efforts with Ethnic Resource Centers to make phone calls to newly admitted students from underrepresented populations. Admits will hear from current students and other campus partners as appropriate, who will share more information about the campus and answer questions.

Smith Renaissance Society Phone Banking - April 2017 (frosh); May 2017 (transfer)
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students
Members of the Smith Renaissance Society will make phone calls to newly admitted frosh and transfer students who self-identify as former foster youth in order to share details about the Smith Renaissance Society community and to tell them more about the campus.

Vets Program Phone Banking – May 16-20, 2017 (transfer)
Target Audience: Newly admitted veterans/active duty military
The VETS Program Coordinator and VETS Peer Mentors will make phone calls to admitted veterans/active duty military students.

Student-Initiated Outreach 

SIO Invitation and Website – March 17, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students in California
Newly admitted students in California will receive an e-mail invitation to attend a weekend program designed by the student-led organizations African/Black Student Alliance, Filipino Student Association, and Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Aztlan to learn more about UCSC, including overviews of advising resources, student life, and academic opportunities. Students will be directed to the SIO page on the admissions website with further details. 

SIO Phone Banking – March 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students in California
In addition to the e-mail invite that will be sent to admitted students, admitted students will be contacted directly by representatives from the Student-Initiated Outreach programs, encouraging them to sign up to participate in one of the three SIO overnight programs for admitted students taking place April 13-15, 2017.

SIO Weekend  - April 13 – 15, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students in California
Newly admitted students in California are invited to attend a weekend program designed by the student-led organizations African/Black Student Alliance, Filipino Student Association, and Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Aztlan to learn more about UCSC, including overviews of advising resources, student life, and academic opportunities.  

SIO Next Steps Presentation – April TBD, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted frosh and transfer students in California
Customized Spring Spotlight presentation and related materials provided to SIO weekend participants. Separate presentations, co-presented with the Office of Admissions and the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office, traditionally provided to each SIO program on the Friday of the event.

Community College-Specific

College Odyssey: Making Easier Transitions (COMET) – April – May, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted transfer students
Admitted transfer students are provided with an opportunity to shadow a current UCSC transfer student and/or communicate online or via phone, as coordinated via the Services for Transfer & Re-entry Students (STARS) office. Admitted students will apply to participate in April and will be notified by April 15 (dates are pending). Visits will be scheduled and conducted April – May. Smith Renaissance Society will also send an e-mail out to students identified as foster youth, encouraging them to participate in COMET. Incorporated with introduction/overview of SRS.

Community College Visits – March – June, 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted transfer students
Admissions staff will use the CRM to announce their visits to admitted students enrolled at California Community Colleges in spring.

Admitted Student Mingles – April – May (TBD), 2017
Target Audience: Newly admitted transfer students
Staff will host small-scale mingles with newly admitted transfer students. These will be informal mingles which can be hosted either at the CACC or at a location nearby (e.g., local Starbucks). We will take a strategic approach regarding whether we will offer a mingle at the CACC or a nearby location. The goal will be to provide information on the next steps in Admissions and answer questions.

Community College Bus Trips – March – May, 2017
Target Audience: Prospective and newly admitted transfer students
The Campus Visits Office will collaborate with Transfer Preparation Program to identify key CACC’s to offer priority group tour reservations.

STEM Transfer Days – April (TBD), 2017
Target Audience: Prospective and newly admitted transfer students
The STEM Transfer Day is designed to increase awareness of and interest in UCSC undergraduate STEM majors among STEM transfer students from the regional community colleges. The Transfer Preparation Program will collaborate with the STEM Diversity Initiative, CalTeach, SACNACS, and Campus Visits to offer prospective and newly admitted transfer students STEM workshops, admissions information, and campus tours throughout the event.
